Electricity from Au-Schönenberg Small-Scale Hydro Power Plant
Product information
The Small-Scale Hydro Power Plant Au-Schönenberg was put into operation in 2002. Utilizing a height drop on the river Thur of 5.9 m, 2.1 megawatt of power is produced. This amounts to an average annual electricity production of around 5.6 gigawatt hours. For the Au-Schönenberg Power Plant various measures have been implemented with positive results on the local ecology. This ecological added value has resulted in the power plant being awarded the ecological power label "naturemade star" in March 2009.
The declared product is 1 kilowatt hour net electricity generated in Au-Schönenberg Power Plant and thereafter distributed to customers connected to the Kradolf-Schönenberg electricity network during the reference year 2015/16.
The Au-Schönenberg Power Plant is owned by Axpo Kleinwasserkraft AG, a fully consolidated company of Axpo group. Axpo is one of the leading Swiss energy companies supplying electricity to about three million people. Axpo uses nuclear energy, hydroelectric energy and renewable energy to cover the base load. Fluctuating demand and peak loads are balanced using storage and pumped-storage plants.
