Synthetic Turf Surfaces intended for Sports, Landscape and Recreational Applications

This PCR is currently being developed.

The development of this PCR was initiated 2026-08-12. The open consultation, planned to start in Q4 2026, will start with an e-mail invitation to identified stakeholders. Any stakeholder is welcome to provide comments on the draft PCR.

The publication is expected in Q2 2027. Dates are preliminary and subject to change.

This document will provide Product Category Rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of Synthetic Turf Surfaces intended for Sports, Landscape and Recreational Applications and the declaration of this performance by an EPD. 

The PCR includes synthetic turf surfacing systems and its principal components: the synthetic turf carpet (yarn/pile, primary and secondary backing), performance infill, stabilising infill, and the shockpad. It allows to develop EPDs for both complete synthetic turf systems and as well as individual components (carpet, performance infill, shockpad).
There is no specifc UN CPC code covering the product category but covered products can be classified as subsets of the UN CPC classes

• 2723 Carpets and other textile floor coverings, tufted
• 3622 Unvulcanized compounded rubber, in primary forms or in plates, sheets or strip; unvulcanized rubber in forms other than primary forms or plates, sheets or strip (except "camel-back" strips for retreading rubber tyres); articles of unvulcanized rubber; thread, cord, plates, sheets, strip, rods and profile shapes, of vulcanized rubber other than hard rubber
• 3639 Other plates, sheets, film, foil and strip, of plastics
• 3691 Floor coverings of plastics, in rolls or in the form of tiles; wall or ceiling coverings of plastics
