Getting started

How do you develop an EPD?

Developing an EPD involves several steps, from collecting environmental data and conducting a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to verification and publication. The International EPD System provides the framework, tools, and guidance to help you through the process.
Key requirements for a credible EPD
Need support with your LCA?

A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is required when developing an EPD. It can be carried out by qualified experts within your organisation or with support from an external LCA consultant.
If you do not have the required expertise in-house, you can view our list of organisations that provide technical support for LCA and EPD development.
Fees, availability and timelines vary between consultants. We therefore recommend contacting several consultants to compare options and find one that meets your needs.
Find the right pricing for your organisation
Publishing an EPD in the International EPD System involves a one-time registration fee and an annual fee. The registration fee is charged per EPD, while the annual fee is based on the size of the organisation. Pricing may vary in countries where EPD registration and publication are managed by a regional programme operator.
