This document provides Product Category Rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of biochar derived from pyrolysis processes, which corresponds to a subset of the following CPC code:
UN CPC 345, Miscellaneous chemical products
Biochar is a carbonaceous material obtained by thermal degradation (pyrolysis of biomass, both of animal and vegetable origin). According to the definition of the European Biochar Certificate, biochar is considered as a "heterogeneous material rich in aromatic and mineral systems”. Biochar that come out at the gate of pyrolysis technologies is the object of this PCR.
