External PCR for Seating (Version 3.0)

This document provides Product Category Rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of seating products and the declaration of this performance by an EPD. This is an external PCR which was developed by NSF International, called BIFMA PCR for Seating, Version 3. The PCR was accepted in 2025-07-15 to be used for registration of an EPD in the International EPD System (IES) when required by regulation, under certain conditions (see below). More information about the product category is available in the PCR.

The PCR is valid until 2025-09-30.

Conditions and procedure for publishing EPDs in the International EPD System (IES) using this external PCR:

• The PCR is an external, stand-alone PCR that shall only be used for publishing EPDs in IES when required by Canadian regulations for the calculation of office furniture carbon footprint.
• The PCR gives compliance to the international standard ISO 21930 only and does not comply with the GPI of IES nor EN 15804.
• The publication of EPDs using this PCR shall follow the normal publication and verification procedure of IES as outlined in the GPI.
• EPDs based on the PCR shall include the following statement: “This EPD is developed using an external PCR, as required by Canadian regulations for the calculation of office furniture carbon footprint. This EPD complies with the international standard ISO 21930:2017 for construction products.”
• EPDs verified to the PCR cannot be published using the EPD compiler.
• Pre-verified tools may be developed based on the PCR.
