PCR description

This PCR is currently being developed.

The development of this PCR was initiated 2024-01-29. The open consultation, planned to start in Q3 2025 will start with an e- mail invitation to identified stakeholders. Any stakeholder is welcome to provide comments on the draft PCR.

The publication is expected in Q2/Q3 2026. Dates are preliminary and subject to change.

Please contact the PCR moderatior Pedro Patrique Ferreira da Silva if you want to engage in the PCR d evelopment process, for example join the PCR Committee or be invited to the open consultation. You may also contact the PCR Moderator if you have any questions on the PCR.

For general questions about PCR development, please contact the Secretariat.

This document will provide Product Category Rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of fibres, and the declaration of this performance by an EPD.

The PCR will have a broad scope, covering all fibres except fibres used in the construction sector (which are instead covered by PCR 2019:14). The PCR will cover all fibres regardless of feedstock: primary fibres, recycled fibres, fibres made of recycled feedstocks, etc.

The product category preliminary corresponds to the below UN CPC classification. In addition, the PCR may cover some upstream products of man-made fibres (e.g., UN CPC 01921 Cotton, whether or not ginned, 01922 Jute, kenaf, and other textile bast fibres, raw or retter, except flax, true hemp and ramie, 01929 Other fibre crops, raw, n.e.c.), but this remains to be decided in the preparation of the first draft PCR.

  • 261 Natural textile fibres prepared for spinning
  • 262 Man-made textile staple fibres processed for spinning
  • 355 Man-made fibres
  • Subset of 37121 Glassfibres etc. (only slivers are covered)
  • Subset of 3792 Fabricated asbestos fibres etc. (only fabricated asbestos fibres are covered)
  • Subset of 48311 Optical fibres etc. (only optical fibres are covered)

This document will replace existing PCRs on fibres: PCR 2013:03 Man made fibers - synthetic, and PCR 2020:03 Man-made fibres for textile sector.

If you have any input in the defined scope of the PCR, please contact the PCR Moderator.
