PCR description
The validity period of this PCR (version 1.0.2) was extended from 2026-10-11 to 2027-04-11 due to the initiation of an updating process.
This PCR is currently being updated to version 2.0.0. The updating process was initiated 2026-04-23. The new version of this PCR will follow the GPI 5.0.
The open consultation of the draft PCR, planned to start within Q3 2026, will start with ane-mail invitation to identify stakeholders. Any stakeholder is welcome to provide comments during this open consultation.
The PCR is expected to be published in Q2 2027.
The indicated dates are however preliminary and subject to change.
If you are interested in joining the PCR Committee or want to be added to the stakeholder list for the open consultation, please contact the PCR Moderator (see contact below).
For questions on the PCR, please contact the PCR moderator Marie Sundkvist, ABB AB.
For questions on the PCR development process, see the PCR development webpage or contact the Secretariat.
A minor update of this PCR was done 2024-10-10 with the release of version 1.0.1. This update does not influence any requirements in the PCR and as such does not influence the comparability of EPDs using versions 1.0 or 1.0.1.
This document provides product category rules (PCR) for the assessment of the environmental performance of electrical motors and generators for industrial applications, and some parts thereof (rotors and stators), and the declaration of this performance by an EPD.
Examples of industrial applications are water and waste-water pumps, cooling fans, compressors, mixers, conveyors in several industrial segments like pulp and paper, mining, power, oil and gas, marine etc.
The product category corresponds to subsets of UN CPC 46112 (Universal AC/DC motors of an output exceeding 37,5 W; other AC motors; AC generators) and UN CPC 46131 (Parts of electric motors, generators and the like).
The scope of the PCR does not include motors and generators for automation systems (which partly are covered by PCR 2019:11 AC and DC gear motors for automation systems) or synchronous condensers. Other parts than rotors and stators are also excluded.
