Welcome EPD Tunisia as a New Licensee

The launch of EPD Tunisia, led by Imed Gharbi from CIFE Water & Energy, marks an important step in supporting companies in developing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and expanding the International EPD System’s presence across the MENA region.
The Secretariat is pleased to announce the establishment of EPD Tunisia, a new licensee of the International EPD System as of 29 October. Operated by CIFE Water & Energy, EPD Tunisia will provide tailored, localised support to companies in Tunisia and across the wider MENA region in the development and registration of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Imed Gharbi, Manager at CIFE Water & Energy, has been appointed CEO of EPD Tunisia and will oversee the facilitation and expansion of EPD development within the country.

As part of the launch activities, EPD Tunisia and the International EPD System co-hosted a seminar with Forvis Mazars on the role of EPDs in a sustainability context. The event welcomed more than 150 participants and was opened by His Excellency, the Minister of Environment, Habib Abid. Opening remarks were followed by brief testimonials from the Managing Partner of Forvis Mazars and representatives of the International EPD System (IES).
The first keynote presentation by Forvis Mazars examined sustainability risks and their quantification, with a particular focus on ESG and company-level sustainability reporting. The second keynote, delivered by Sebastiaan Stiller, CEO of IES, and Nasser Ayoub, Managing Director of EPD MENA, introduced the EPD concept and highlighted its relevance at the product and material level, offering insights into product-level environmental performance.

The seminar brought together senior representatives from leading Tunisian manufacturing sectors, including construction, agri-food, transportation, and healthcare. A dedicated training session on LCA and EPD development also took place, with participation from a range of industry stakeholders, including delegates from the Islamic Bank. The Swedish Ambassador to Tunisia, together with Deputy Joakim Svahn, attended the official inauguration of the EPD Tunisia office.
