Clay

Product name: Clay

Product identification and description:

Clays are fine-grained sedimentary rocks consisting of more than 50% clay minerals with a particle size of less than 2-4 micrometers. According to the predominant type of clay mineral, we distinguish kaolinite, montmorillonite, illite clays and their various mixtures.

The color of clays varies depending on the content of accompanying minerals and other admixtures.

A typical feature of clays is the ability of their particles to envelop themselves in a layer of water, which allows them to slide together and creates high plasticity, i.e. the ability to shape.

Different types of clays vary in their orgin, chemical composition, and the resulting technological properties that allow them to be used in various industries.

The clays used are found in the following locations:

  • Cheb Basin: occurrence of binding clays, as well as porous clays, refractory clays and stoneware clays
  • South Bohemian Basin: highly to medium refractory clays predominate, especially suitable as binding clays
  • Pilsen Basin: dominated by moderately refractory binding clays
