Sulfate Resistant Cement (SRC)
The product investigated in this EPD is Sulphate Resisting Cemetn (SRC) produced at company’s production plant in southern region of Riyadh. This type is quite similar to ordinary cement in properties and degree of hardness. But the difference lies in the fact that it contains a lesser percentage of tricalcium silicate, which makes it resistant to salt water and sulfur, which interacts with the tricalcium silicate and increases the size of the cement quantity. Sulfate-resistant cement is used in concrete that is subject to severe sulfate reactions, and hence it is recommended to use it when soil or groundwater contains a high percentage of sulfur, as it is very suitable with foundations built in all types of soil. The ability of this product to resist high sulfate is due to the low percentage of the tricalcium aluminate component.
