ACLA - Asphalt aggregate
LCM designs and manufactures carbon-negative aggregates, the essential crushed stone, sand, or gravel components that give concrete and asphalt their strength and stability. LCM's innovative sustainable aggregates seamlessly replace traditional materials in existing production processes, offering a simple and scalable way to reduce the carbon footprint of construction. These aggregates not only provide the necessary structural integrity, but they also either prevent the release of, or permanently remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, making them a powerful tool in the fight against climate change and contributing to a greener future for the construction industry.ACLA is a carbon-negative aggregate by Low Carbon Materials, designed to significantly lower the carbon footprint of asphalt and support net-zero goals in road construction. It has a black, gravel-like appearance with a particle size of 4-10 mm (custom sizes available) and an impressive A1-A3 GWP of -798 kg CO2e/t. This negative carbon footprint is achieved primarily through permanent biogenic carbon removals with some additional atmospheric carbon dioxide removal through carbonation. ACLA replaces natural stone aggregate in asphalt binder course mixes, typically comprising 3-10% of the mix, and has successfully demonstrated its effectiveness in achieving net-zero emissions in multiple UK projects.
