Three Layer Polypropylene Coated Spiral Welded Steel Pipes
Three Layer Polypropylene (3LPP) is a multilayer coating composed of three functional components: A high performance Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) primer, followed by a copolymer adhesive and an outer layer of polypropylene which provides tough, durable protection. 3LPP systems provide excellent pipeline protection for small and large diameter pipelines operating at up to moderately high temperatures.
• The FBE component provides excellent adhesion to steel, providing superior long-term corrosion resistance and protection of pipelines operating at moderate temperatures.
• The adhesive is a grafted polypropylene adhesive, supplied in pellet form, natural color. The polar groups grafted on the polymer backbone offer excellent adhesion to polar materials.
• The outer layer of polypropylene protects pipelines during transportation and installation from abrasion and mechanical damage thereby reducing costly repairs.
When the pipeline is laid in-ground the polypropylene layer protects against shear forces, moisture ingress, chemical exposure of the FBE and abrasive soil conditions. By increasing the thickness of the polypropylene outer layer, the 3LPP System can provide a high level of mechanical protection across many diverse environments without requiring the use of costly select backfill.
• 3LPP systems offer excellent resistance to cathodic disbondment, reducing lifecycle costs of cathodic protection
