Aluminium Billet
Aluminium Billet is a semi-finished metallic product used as the input material for the hot extrusion of aluminium profiles. It is manufactured by Kenan Metal A.Ş. at its casthouse in Ergene, Tekirdağ, Türkiye, from a fully recovered metallic charge consisting of secondary aluminium ingot, post-consumer aluminium scrap and pre-consumer (new) aluminium scrap. The declared product has a total recycled content of 99.4 mass-% according to ISO 14021 (98.4 mass-% post-consumer and 1.0 mass-% pre-consumer).
Production is carried out through the following controlled processes:
- Scrap reception, inspection and charge preparation
- Melting in natural-gas fired furnaces
- Alloying with silicon, magnesium, manganese, chromium and AlTiB grain refiner
- Melt treatment: fluxing, argon degassing, dross skimming and in-line filtration
- Direct-chill (DC) vertical casting
- Homogenisation heat treatment
- Sawing to length, inspection and packaging
The billet is supplied to extrusion plants producing profiles for construction applications such as window and door systems, curtain walls and façade systems. It is characterised by a controlled and reproducible chemical composition, a homogeneous microstructure with grain refinement, good extrudability and surface quality, and full recyclability at the end of life without loss of material properties. The chemical composition of every cast is verified by spectrometric analysis.
The declared unit is 1 tonne (1,000 kg) of aluminium billet. As the billet is an intermediate product delivered to extrusion plants for further processing, a reference service life is not declared.
