| Method used to calculate residual electricity mix | Electricity consumed in module A3 is modelled using the ecoinvent 3.12 dataset "Market for electricity, medium voltage – Vietnam" as implemented in One Click LCA, with a climate impact of 0.51 kg CO2 eq./kWh. No residual electricity mix is published for Vietnam; the Association of Issuing Bodies publishes residual mixes for European markets only. The LCA software used does not permit a user-defined generation mix, so a Vietnam-specific residual mix could not be constructed within the model. In accordance with GPI 5.0.1 §A.6.2, where an electricity market has no contractual instruments meeting the criteria of that section, the residual mix is taken to be identical to the consumption mix. That basis has been applied here. No contractual instrument, renewable energy certificate or guarantee of origin has been claimed for the electricity used. As a sensitivity, the conservative assumption in GPI 5.0.1 footnote 70 — the consumption mix less its renewable share — would give approximately 0.92 kg CO2 eq./kWh. Applied to the declared unit this would increase A1–A3 GWP-total by approximately 0.5 % for Copper Rod and 1.3 % for Bare Copper Wire. The declared results are therefore not materially sensitive to this choice. |

System boundary
| Description of the system boundary | a) Cradle to gate with modules C1-C4 and module D (A1-A3 + C + D). |
|---|---|
| Excluded modules | Yes, there is an excluded module, or there are excluded modules |
| Justification for the omission of modules | Modules A4, A5 and B1–B7 are not declared. Copper Rod is an intermediate product intended for further processing into wire, conductors and cables. Transport beyond the CFT factory gate, downstream processing, installation, use and maintenance depend on the final product and application and therefore cannot be defined meaningfully at the Copper Rod factory-gate stage. The declared scope comprises A1–A3, C1–C4 and Module D. |

Additional environmental information
This EPD covers Electrolytic Tough Pitch (ETP) Copper Rod manufactured by CFT VINA COPPER CO., LTD. The declared product group comprises Copper Rod with nominal diameters of 8.0 mm, 12.5 mm and 16.0 mm. All declared variants are manufactured at the same production facility using the same principal raw materials, SCR-2000 continuous casting and rolling technology, production equipment and quality-control procedures. The declared results represent the 2025 production-weighted average environmental performance of the product group and are reported per declared unit of 1,000 kg of finished Copper Rod.
Copper Rod is manufactured from primary copper cathode and externally sourced recycled copper feedstock. Per declared unit, the model includes 839.898017 kg of primary copper cathode and 173.456605 kg of externally sourced recycled copper, corresponding to a gross copper input of 1,013.354622 kg. The recycled copper input and its associated upstream environmental burdens are included in the LCA model. No specific post-consumer recycled-content claim is made unless supported by traceable supplier documentation. Internal copper recovered and returned to the CFT manufacturing process is treated as an internal material loop and is not considered an additional externally sourced recycled input. Separately, approximately 13.36 kg of copper-containing production residue per declared unit leaves modules A1–A3 for authorised external recycling and is reported as Materials for Recycling (MFR).
Customer-delivery packaging is allocated exclusively to Copper Rod supplied to external customers. Copper Rod transferred internally to the Wire production line is excluded from the Rod packaging allocation. The accompanying packaging comprises wooden pallet and combined plastic packaging consisting of PE film/bags and plastic strap. Packaging mass is reported separately and is not included in the 1,000 kg declared product mass, while packaging production and associated impacts are included in modules A1–A3. The finished Copper Rod contains no biogenic carbon. The accompanying wooden packaging contains approximately 1.992 kg C of biogenic carbon per declared unit. As Module A5 is not declared, the biogenic carbon associated with the wooden packaging is balanced within modules A1–A3 in accordance with PCR 2019:14 and EN 15804+A2.
The declared system boundary is cradle-to-gate with modules C1–C4 and Module D. Modules A1–A3, C1–C4 and D are declared, while modules A4, A5 and B1–B7 are not declared. Modules A1–A3 include raw-material supply, inbound transport, Copper Rod manufacturing, manufacturing energy and water consumption, ancillary and packaging materials, production losses, and treatment of manufacturing waste and wastewater. Transport of finished Copper Rod beyond the CFT factory gate, unloading, unpacking, installation and subsequent downstream processing into wire, conductors or cables are outside the declared system boundary.
Electricity consumption is modelled using the ecoinvent 3.12 “Market for electricity, medium voltage – Vietnam” dataset, with a GWP of approximately 0.51 kg CO₂e/kWh. The final LCA model uses ecoinvent 3.12 background datasets together with applicable One Click LCA database resources.
Modules C1–C4 represent the declared reference end-of-life scenario for the copper contained in the downstream electrical product. The scenario assumes 100% collection and 95% recycling and 5% loss for final disposal, corresponding to 950 kg and 50 kg per declared unit, respectively. A reference transport distance of 100 km is applied in Module C2. Module D is calculated using the net-scrap approach and accounts for the 950 kg of end-of-life copper directed to recycling, approximately 13.36 kg of production scrap leaving A1–A3 as MFR, and approximately 173.46 kg of secondary copper already entering the product system. The resulting net recyclable copper flow used in Module D is approximately 789.90 kg per declared unit. Module D is reported separately and shall not be added to the results of modules A1–C4.
Site-specific foreground data are based on CFT VINA COPPER CO., LTD. production and environmental records for the 2025 reference year. Where supplier-specific information is unavailable, documented technically and geographically representative secondary datasets are applied. End-of-life and Module D results are scenario-dependent and do not represent guaranteed future collection, recycling, substitution or disposal outcomes. Actual outcomes may vary depending on the downstream product, collection systems, recycling technologies and waste-management practices.
No claim of carbon neutrality, environmental superiority, complete circularity or environmental equivalence is made. Comparisons with other EPDs are meaningful only where the declarations apply equivalent PCR requirements, declared units, system boundaries, technical performance, data-quality requirements, impact-assessment methods and relevant scenarios.
