Elevator Smoke Curtain

The Elevator Smoke Curtain (ESC) is a smoke containment and draft-control system designed for elevator openings and hoist way doors in commercial and residential buildings. The system consists of a clear transparent curtain integrated with a magnetic smoke-sealing mechanism that automatically deploys upon activation from a fire alarm signal, local smoke detector, or power failure. The gravity fail-safe mechanism and integrated battery backup ensure safe operation during emergencies, while the transparent curtain enables occupants to visually assess safe egress conditions.

The ESC system is compatible with standard elevator configurations and can be surface-mounted or recessed within ceilings for architectural flexibility. It includes an integrated emergency egress switch, automatic curtain retraction, and a protective headbox closure system. The product complies with major international fire safety and smoke control standards, including UL1784, UL864, UL723, ASTM E84, ICC-ES ESR-4888, and California State Fire Marshal listings, ensuring reliable smoke containment performance and regulatory compliance.

The ESC (Elevator Smoke Curtain) is a smoke and draft-control assembly comprising a transparent FEP (Fluorinated Ethylene Propylene) fabric curtain housed within a galvanized or powder-coated steel headbox. The system is available for elevator openings with clear widths ranging from 42 to 63 inches and a maximum drop length of 12 feet. It operates on a 120 Vac power supply and incorporates a 24 V lead-acid battery backup with a maximum standby duration of 4.5 hours. The FEP curtain material has a density of 2.13–2.17 g/cm³, a thickness of 0.0013–0.250 mm, and a tensile strength of at least 24 N/mm². The product has an expected service life of 10 years and is designed for annual maintenance.
