THRACE CrackDefender™ fibers for concrete
THRACE CrackDefender™ fibers for concrete are synthetic polypropylene microfibers manufactured for use as secondary reinforcement in concrete, mortar, screeds and other cementitious materials. The fibers are added during batching or mixing and disperse throughout the fresh mix, contributing to the control of plastic shrinkage cracking, improved cohesion and enhanced durability of the final cement-based product.
The EPD covers multiple CrackDefender™ Class Ia polypropylene fiber variants manufactured at the Thrace Nonwovens & Geosynthetics S.A. production site in Magiko, Xanthi, Greece. The covered products have the same main raw material composition, production route and intended application, and differ mainly in nominal fiber diameter and nominal fiber length. The covered variants are CrackDefender™ M3D32, M6D32, M12D32, M18D32, M3D24, M6D24, M12D24 and M18D24.
CrackDefender™ fibers are non-corrosive, non-magnetic, non-biodegradable, chemically inert and alkali-resistant. They are intended for non-structural secondary reinforcement applications where control of cracking caused by shrinkage and temperature fluctuations is required, and where improved ductility, toughness, impact resistance, abrasion resistance and fire-related performance of cementitious elements may be beneficial. The product is not intended to replace structural reinforcement unless specifically supported by the relevant design and product documentation.
The declared product consists of 1 kg of finished CrackDefender™ fibers for concrete, excluding packaging. The product composition is 0.979 kg polypropylene resin and 0.021 kg spin finish oil per declared unit. Packaging is reported separately from the declared product mass.
