Organic bonded abrasive grinding wheel

The product is an organic bonded abrasive grinding wheel intended for material removal by grinding in industrial applications. The product consists primarily of abrasive grains (such as fused aluminium oxide) bonded with an organic binder, typically a phenolic resin. Depending on the design and application, the product may also contain fillers and reinforcement materials to ensure mechanical strength, safety, and grinding performance.

The grinding wheel is manufactured through a sequence of raw material preparation, mixing, forming or pressing, curing, finishing, and quality control processes. It is designed for use on stationary or handheld grinding machines and is applied in operations such as surface grinding, off-hand grinding, and deburring of metallic or non-metallic workpieces.

The function of the product is to remove material from a workpiece while ensuring controlled abrasive wear during its service life. The grinding wheel is a consumable product and is progressively worn during use until it reaches its defined end-of-life criteria (it can be dimensional or functional).

The product complies with EN 12413, the European standard specifying safety requirements for bonded abrasive products. This standard defines criteria related to mechanical strength (this depends on the application pressure, diameter, and type of machine), maximum operating speeds (80 m/s), and labeling, ensuring a high level of safety and consistent performance during use.

The product is representative of standard industrial organic bonded grinding wheels manufactured by FEPA member companies and is used as a reference product for the development and validation of the grinding LCA-tool.
