Technology description including background systemINSEE Wall Pro is produced at the Hon Chong integrated cement plant. The product is a blended hydraulic cement consisting mainly of Portland clinker, limestone, supplementary cementitious materials such as fly ash, and sulphate carriers. The A1–A3 system boundary covers raw material extraction and preparation, transport to the production site, clinker production and cement manufacturing up to the factory gate. Clinker production includes raw material preparation, preheating in the cyclone preheater, calcination, clinker formation in the rotary kiln at approximately 1,450°C, clinker cooling and clinker storage. Cement manufacturing includes controlled proportioning and grinding of clinker with gypsum, limestone and supplementary cementitious materials, followed by cement silo storage, packing and dispatch in bulk or bagged form. The system includes fuel combustion, electricity consumption, process emissions from calcination, auxiliary materials, internal material handling and waste generation. Alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR) are included where applicable. Background datasets for electricity, fuels, transport and upstream materials were modelled using the GCCA Industry EPD Tool v5.2. Purchased electricity is modelled using the national residual electricity mix. At the Hon Chong site, waste heat recovery (WHR) electricity is used internally and reflected through reduced purchased electricity consumption in the site-specific operational data.

Data quality assessment

Description of data quality assessment and reference yearsPrimary operational data for INSEE Wall Pro were collected for the reference year 2025 and are representative in terms of technology, geography and time. The data cover modules A1–A3. Secondary background datasets were sourced from the GCCA Industry EPD Tool for Cement and Concrete v5.2.

The share of primary data is calculated based on GWP-GHG results. It is a simplified indicator for data quality that supports the use of more primary data to increase the representativeness of and comparability between EPDs. Note that the indicator does not capture all relevant aspects of data quality and is not comparable across product categories.
Comment on the data sources and other information in the tablePrimary operational data refer to the 2025 production year for INSEE Wall Pro at the Hon Chong integrated cement plant and cover modules A1–A3. Secondary datasets, including electricity, fuels, raw material supply and transport, were sourced from the GCCA Industry EPD Tool v5.2. The reported primary and secondary data shares together cover 100% of the A1–A3 GWP-GHG results.

Method used to calculate residual electricity mixElectricity used in A3 was modelled using the national residual electricity mix dataset embedded in the GCCA Industry EPD Tool v5.2 (International version). The GWP-GHG intensity of purchased electricity is 6.64E-1 kg CO₂ eq./kWh. No supplier-specific or contractual electricity is applied. At the Hon Chong site, electricity generated from waste heat recovery (WHR) is used internally and offsets part of the site’s grid electricity demand. This WHR contribution is reflected through the reduced amount of purchased electricity reported in the site-specific operational data and is therefore not declared as a separate electricity source in the residual electricity mix.
