Technology description including background systempanel products based on MDF boards. The product structure mainly consists of a medium density fibreboard panel with a homogeneous fibre structure and processed surface properties depending on the intended product specification. The MDF panels covered by this EPD are produced with a nominal density of 690 kg/m³. AGT MDF Panel is produced in 8 mm and 18 mm thicknesses, and the 18 mm product thickness was selected as the representative thickness for this EPD study. The MDF panel production process starts with MDF board feeding and continues with bottom coating operations. The boards are then subjected to quality control, followed by board turning to allow further surface processing. After this stage, the panels are processed through sanding operations to obtain the required surface quality and dimensional consistency. The process then continues with surface coating, where the panels are finished according to the required product specifications. Conforming products are finally packaged for storage and shipment. The background system includes the production of the MDF board, coating and auxiliary materials, electricity consumption, packaging materials and waste management processes considered in the LCA model.
Scrap (recycled material) inputs contribution levelLess than 10% of the GWP-GHG results in modules A1-A3 come from scrap inputs

Data quality assessment

Description of data quality assessment and reference yearsThe EPD is based on data collected by AGT Ağaç from one production site over a one-year period starting from January 2024. The EPD type is a single product EPD for MDF panel products produced at AGT Ağaç’s Antalya/Döşemealtı Plant. The end-of-life stage of the EPD was modelled using a weighted average approach based on the product’s sales destinations and Eurostat data. AGT Ağaç uses the same production technology for all MDF panel products covered by this EPD. Wood-based raw materials constitute the main material input for MDF panel production. The MDF panels are produced by AGT Ağaç at the same Antalya/Döşemealtı production site, which improves the technological and geographical representativeness of the primary data. The relevant production processes are representative of AGT Ağaç’s MDF panel product range. The EPD uses background data from the Ecoinvent 3.11 database, 2024, together with EPD data for the specific primary input materials used. The quality of the relevant data used for the EPD, in terms of time, geographical, and technological representativeness, was assessed in accordance with EN 15804:2012+A2:2019, Annex E, Table E.2. The data quality was found to be mostly good and very good. No poor or very poor data were identified among the relevant data assessed.

General disclaimerThe results of the end-of-life stage (modules C1-C4) should be considered when using the results of the product stage (modules A1-A3/A1-A5 for services).
Disclaimer 1This impact category deals mainly with the eventual impact of low dose ionizing radiation on human health of the nuclear fuel cycle. It does not consider effects due to possible nuclear accidents, occupational exposure nor due to radioactive waste disposal in underground facilities. Potential ionizing radiation from the soil, from radon and from some construction materials is also not measured by this indicator.
Disclaimer 2The results of this environmental impact indicator shall be used with care as the uncertainties of these results are high or as there is limited experience with the indicator.

Disclaimer 1The GWP-GHG indicator is termed GWP-IOBC/GHG in the ILCD+EPD+ data format. The indicator accounts for all greenhouse gases except biogenic carbon dioxide uptake and emissions and biogenic carbon stored in the product. As such, the indicator is identical to GWP-total except that the CF for biogenic CO2 is set to zero.

Justification for why this is representativeThe product was selected as a representative for the EPD study due to its density being both commonly used within the product range and closely aligned with the average density of the overall product portfolio. This ensures that the results of the assessment accurately reflect typical product performance across the range.
