Description of the organisation of the EPD Owner
Diasen is an Italian company operating in the architecture and sustainable building materials sector, committed to developing biophilic solutions and systems that foster more balanced and mutually beneficial relationships between humans and nature, and between built environments and living cycles. Its solutions address needs for comfort and aesthetic quality—such as thermal and acoustic insulation, surface protection, and spatial enhancement—and are designed for public construction, private architecture, and design, with particular attention to how materials interact over time with environmental factors. The company’s activities are guided by compliance with environmental regulations and by a structured approach aimed at identifying, monitoring, and reducing impacts. Since 2007, Diasen has adopted a certified Environmental Management System in accordance with ISO 14001:2015, alongside ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards. Diasen is also a certified B Corp®, demonstrating a commitment verified by independent third parties that attest to its social and environmental responsibility. More than 40 products have undergone LEED®, WELL®, and BREEAM® mapping to support their integration into sustainable building protocols and advanced, high-performance architectural frameworks. Operational practices include monitoring material flows to limit waste generation and increase recovery where technically feasible. Research and Development (R&D) focuses on integrating raw materials derived from industrial by-products and recoverable streams, prioritizing durability and long-term resource efficiency—key indicators of quality in relation to market outputs. Product and solution development is oriented toward improving thermal performance and reducing building energy demand. At the same time, the company places strong emphasis on indoor environmental quality and on the long-term interaction between materials, people, and ecosystems, as these aspects are integral to its mission: creating authentic spaces and environments that support human well-being, combining both functional and experiential value.

Acriflex Rapido
| Product name | Acriflex Rapido |
|---|---|
| Product identification | - EN 14891: Liquid-applied water impermeable products for use beneath ceramic tiling bonded with adhesives (e.g., for balconies, terraces, and wet areas). |
| Product description | High–performance, single-component liquid waterproofing membrane formulated with advanced elastomeric resins. Engineered for maximum adaptability, it can be applied at +1 °C and in high–humidity conditions, resisting rain and water stagnation within 2–4 hours. This ready–to–use continuous barrier is ideal for roofs, terraces, and damp substrates, and is certified for asbestos encapsulation. Compliant with EOTA TR 003 and EN 14891 standards, it is a VOC–free solution (Dir. 2004/42/EC) ensuring maximum environmental health. |
| Technical purpose of product | The products belonging to the Waterproofing line consist of liquid-applied membranes, multi-component hybrid coatings, and water-based bituminous compounds. They are intended for both interior and exterior applications in residential, public, commercial, and sports buildings, as well as for underground structures and historical restoration. Their primary technical functions include providing continuous watertight barriers against rainwater, moisture, and extreme hydrostatic pressure, while offering high elasticity, crack-bridging capacity, and rapid resistance to early washout. Additionally, specific formulations within the line serve specialized purposes such as urban heat island mitigation through ultra-high solar reflectance, and environmental remediation via certified asbestos encapsulation. They are designed for application on a wide variety of substrates—including concrete, tiles, existing bituminous membranes, wood, and masonry—to significantly enhance the envelope's durability and long-term protection against weathering. |
| Manufacturing or service provision description | The manufacturing process begins with the receipt and storage of raw materials from suppliers. Depending on their characteristics, materials arrive in plastic or metal buckets, kraft paper and plastic bags, or unpackaged in bulk; the latter are stored directly in dedicated silos. These materials are fed into the liquid production mixer either automatically or manually. Packaged ingredients stored in the warehouse are subsequently transported to the mixing station via electric forklifts. For cork–based products, the raw cork undergoes a preliminary milling stage before being transferred to the final production phase. Production is a batch (discontinuous) process where all components are mechanically blended. The finished product is then packaged in buckets, palletized on wooden pallets, secured with a protective polymer hooding film, and stored in the finished goods warehouse. Quality control is strictly performed both during production and prior to shipment This manufacturing process requires water and operates virtually as a closed–loop system, generating no material scraps. Water from the municipal aqueduct is used exclusively to clean the mixer between different production cycles and is subsequently discharged as industrial wastewater. |

| Product name | L'Antipioggia Terrazzi |
|---|---|
| Product identification | - EN 14891: Liquid-applied water impermeable products for use beneath ceramic tiling bonded with adhesives (e.g., for balconies, terraces, and wet areas). |
| Product description | High–performance, water–based transparent liquid waterproofing, ideal as a non–invasive solution for existing paved surfaces. It eliminates infiltrations without demolition, preserving the original aesthetics of the substrate. It ensures continuous hydrophobic protection and excellent structural durability, harmonizing architectural restoration efficiency with maximum chemical–physical resistance and environmental health. |

| Technology description including background system | The products considered are liquid waterproofing compounds, fluid membranes, and protective coatings belonging to the Waterproofing Line. This multi-product EPD reflects a conservative worst-case scenario formulation among all included product variations. The products mainly consist of water (0.048 to 0.87 kg/kg), acrylic resins (0.00 to 0.633 kg/kg), Portland cement (0.00 to 0.37 kg/kg), quartz (0.00 to 0.30 kg/kg), epoxy resins (0.00 to 0.18 kg/kg), and recycled rubber (0.00 to 0.164 kg/kg). The manufacturing process is an industrial batch (discontinuous) blending operation. Raw materials are mechanically mixed and packaged into plastic buckets (PP), palletized on wooden pallets, and wrapped with protective polymer film (LDPE). Municipal water is used exclusively for equipment cleaning between production cycles and discharged as industrial wastewater, operating as a closed-loop system with no material scraps generated. Manufacturing operations are powered by an electricity mix composed of 19.10% self-produced solar energy and 80.90% from the national grid (Italian Residual Mix). The LCA background system relies on the Ecoinvent 3.11 database and SimaPro 10.3.0 software, covering a 'Cradle-to-gate' boundary (Modules A1–A3). |
