Urea-melamine-formaldehyde resin for plywood (type Silekol® 3XX)

Urea-melamine-formaldehyde resins are obtained by reacting urea and melamine with formaldehyde in an acidic environment. The production of resins is a multi-stage process with a variable temperature-time profile, different molar ratios of substrates, and different pH values. Alkaline metal hydroxides and organic or inorganic acids are most commonly used as catalysts. The product obtained can be cured at elevated temperatures with the addition of a polycondensation catalyst. The final product has a relatively high viscosity, which is the result of distilling off excess water. It can be cured at elevated temperatures with the addition of a polycondensation catalyst based on acids or their salts and is mainly used as a binder in the production of dry-resistant flat plywood, flexible plywood, and laminate flooring.
