Description of the organisation of the EPD Owner
Alimac S.r.l. was born from the merger of two historic Italian companies, Macchiarini Granulati and Aliboni Granulati, with the ambitious goal of combining the solidity of artisanal tradition with technological and managerial innovation. Macchiarini Granulati, founded in the 1950s, specialized in the production of white Carrara marble aggregates and powders, with a focus on marble pebbles. Aliboni Granulati, active since the 1920s, stood out for its production of micro-aggregates and smoothed-surface pebbles, thanks to its two state-of-the-art production facilities. This merger created a unique synergy, integrating the historical expertise of both companies into a single entity geared toward the future. Today, Alimac is a recognized leader in the construction, landscaping, and livestock sectors, thanks to a production model that combines traditional techniques with continuous investment in research and development. The company operates three production sites located in Seravezza, Pontefoggi, and Querceta, with an annual production capacity of approximately 250,000 tonnes. The product range is broad and diversified, making Alimac a reliable partner for quality- and innovation-driven companies. Thanks to its unique combination of respect for tradition and ambition for progress, Alimac continues to grow, offering cutting-edge solutions to meet the evolving needs of the global market.

Product information
| Product name | White Carrara Marble Granulate |
|---|---|
| Product identification | White Carrara Marble Granulate |
| Product description | The white Carrara marble granulate produced by Alimac S.r.l. is made from high-quality materials and processed using advanced technologies to meet the requirements of various sectors, including construction, decoration, and animal husbandry. The production process begins at the Pontefoggi and Seravezza plants, where the material undergoes a first crushing stage. A portion of this semi-finished product is then transferred to the Querceta facility, where it is subjected to a second phase of crushing and screening to achieve precise and uniform grain sizes. White Carrara marble aggregate is known for its purity, durability, and versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, particularly in construction, landscaping, and decorative uses. This product is supplied in 1.000 kg or 1.500 kg big bags, ensuring efficient transportation and complete traceability. Production adheres to the highest quality standards, ensuring that every single batch meets customer specifications and delivers maximum satisfaction in final applications. The product is made from 100% by-products, sourced from marble chips discarded during the extraction and processing of marble in the Carrara quarries. |
| Technical purpose of product | The granulate is ideal for a wide range of applications, including construction, landscaping, and decoration. |
| Manufacturing or service provision description | Alimac S.r.l. produces White Carrara marble granules through a highly integrated and specialized process that takes place across three production facilities located in Seravezza, Pontefoggi, and Querceta, in Tuscany (Italy). The company’s approach focuses on enhancing the value of marble by-products generated from quarrying operations, transforming them into a high-quality material for applications in construction, landscaping, and urban design. The production process begins at the Seravezza site, where all incoming marble chips are thoroughly washed. This initial step is crucial for removing surface impurities such as dust, clay residues, and any remaining debris from the quarry. The clean chips are then visually inspected by trained operators, who manually remove any foreign materials—such as wood, metal, or discolored fragments—that do not meet the required aesthetic standards of white Carrara marble. Next, the material undergoes primary crushing, a mechanical process that reduces the size of the marble fragments. This takes place at both the Seravezza and Pontefoggi sites. Once crushed, the material is passed through a series of sieving operations to separate it into precise granulometric classes, or “cuts,” tailored to different technical and decorative uses. The material is then transported to the Querceta plant, where it enters the final refinement stage. Depending on the desired product specifications, it may undergo further size reduction or screening, resulting in finer granules or marble powders. |

| Technology description including background system | The product considered is loose White Carrara marble powder, produced by Allmac S.p.A. from selected quarry waste. The product consists of high-purity calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) in fine powder form, obtained through a two-stage mechanical crushing and sieving process. The first crushing occurs in Seravezza and Pontefoggi, followed by a secondary refining stage in Querceta. The raw material derives from offcuts and non-usable pieces of marble from local quarrying operations. No packaging materials are involved; the product is delivered in bulk via covered trucks or silos. Use-stage and end-of-life scenarios are not considered, as the product is used as a filler or raw material in downstream processes. |

Description of the process flow diagram(s)
Alimac S.r.l. specializes in processing Carrara marble chips through an integrated production cycle distributed across three facilities. The process begins at the Seravezza plant, where all incoming material is washed. After this initial phase, the chips are sent to the Seravezza and Pontefoggi sites for the first crushing and screening, which includes quality control, size reduction, and separation into various grain sizes. At Seravezza, part of the material is also transformed into smooth, rounded white marble pebbles through a tumbling process, mainly for decorative and paving applications. All semi-finished products are then transferred to the Querceta plant, where a second crushing and screening phase produces finer aggregates and marble powder. Querceta also occasionally manufactures colored pebbles and carries out the final packaging of all products.

Information related to EPDs of multiple products
| Description of how the averages have been determined | The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for White Carrara Marble Granules packaged in 1000 kg and 1500 kg big bags has been calculated as a weighted average of the final environmental impacts, based on the actual annual production volumes of each packaging format within the same product family. The weighting factors used in the calculation were determined according to the relative quantities produced for the 1000 kg and 1500 kg big bags. In accordance with the applicable EPD regulations, multiple product variants can be included in the same product family only if their respective environmental impacts do not differ by more than 10% from the weighted average. To verify this condition, a variability analysis of the LCIA (Life Cycle Impact Assessment) results was carried out. The analysis confirmed that the environmental impact values for both packaging options fall within the acceptable ±10% deviation. |
