Solid precast concrete, Climate slab

Solid Climate slab elements are used in different varieties and reinforced with steel bars and prestressed “green” steel wires, which are produced from 73 % post-consumer material. Each element is customised for an individual project.

The elements are produced after a requirements specification from the customer. That includes recesses and other details for electrical pipes, drain and ventilation pipes.

Moulds for the elements and recesses are normally made in wood. Sometimes, when there are many similar moulds, they are produced in steel. All raw materials are transported to the factory. Cement is the ingredient in concrete that affects the environment the most. Therefore, we minimize the cement content in the concrete, even if the curing time increases.

When cement is produced at the cement factory a calcination process is taking place. During this process carbon dioxide is released from the limestone. The concrete in a building recapture up to 20–25 % of this carbon dioxide during its first 100 years of lifetime. However, the use phase, and therefore the recapturing of carbon dioxide, is not included in this EPD.

In second place in affecting the environment comes reinforcing steel. In this climate slab we use a “green” strand which is produced from scrap steel. Minimizing the content of reinforcement is also very prioritized. Reinforcement is usually cut and bended in our factories.
