Use of resources 11.2.5

by: Finisterre loran 27 November 2013, 2:50:18 PM (GMT +1)

About "11.2.5 USE OF RESOURCES" (page 25),

EN 15804 says that: the parameter “use of renewable(/non renewable) primary energy excluding renewable(/non renewable) primary energy resources used as raw materials”
can be calculated as the difference between the "total input of primary energy" and the "input of energy resources used as raw materials".

But how do we convert "energy resources used as raw materials" to MJ? (They usually are in kg)

I wrote an interpretation request to EN 15804 (committee CEN/ TC 350/ WG 3). They have answered me the following:

Primary energy, renewable or non-renewable, used as raw material (feedstock) is counted as LHV of the product.
Any secondary material content is not accounted for in the calculation of the “use of renewable primary energy resources used as raw material” nor the “use of non-renewable primary energy resources used as raw material” but as “use of secondary material”.

Primary energy used as raw material is e.g.:
- wood in timber products, paper
- fossil fuel in plastics, paints, textiles, etc.
- wool or cotton in carpets
- linseed oil in linoleum, sunflower oil in PVC products

The indicators for the use of primary energy resources used as energy carrier can be calculated as the difference from the total primary energy and the primary energy used as feedstock. The total primary energy is usually given in life cycle assessment tools.

The term primary energy excluding primary energy resources used as raw materials means “energy carrier” or energy used in processes.

I have understood your interpretation but  i cannot understand how to calculate the contribution of the primary energy as feedstock of a specific product.
Do you know if I can extrapolate this information from some specific database or if exist a specific method implemented in SimaPro to calculate it?
Thank you in advance
