Insulation materials (de-registered; replaced by sub-PCR)

System boundaries

by: Martina Pucciarelli 30 June 2016, 8:44:46 AM (GMT +1)

Dear Madam or Sir,
I am writing for asking a clarification relating the modules on which the EDP for insulation materials could be based.
In the PCR for insulation materials (2014:13) in the chapter titled “General system boundaries” (page 6) is written that the EDP shall be based on information modules A1- A4 plus C2- C4 (Cradle to gate with options). Meanwhile in the EN 15804 the same system boundaries is based on the modules A1, A2 and A3 plus C1-C4. At the same time, I do not understand if EDP for insulation materials based on modules A1-A3 (Cradle to gate) would be accepted.
Kind regards,

Dear Martina,

I would recommend that you use the most specific PCR for the product you are investigating (in this case 2014:13).

Kind regards,

Dear Kristian Jelse,

We at EFLA Consulting Engineers went through other PCRs (EPD Norge and IBU) and they seem to allow either cradle to gate (A1-A3), cradle to gate við options (A1-A3 + other modules optional) or cradle to grave (A1-C4).

How come you decided to fix your PCR to exactly A1-A3 + C2-C4?

Would you decline an application for an EPD with only A1-A3?

Kind regards,
Sigurður Thorlacius

Dear Sigurður,

The scope of a PCR is decided during the PCR development by the stakeholders involved in the process. The added value of this PCR is in providing further specifications than A1-A3 as this is already covered by the general PCR 2012:01 Construction products and construction services. Please contact the PCR moderator for further information about the choices made during the PCR development.

Best regards,

Kristian Jelse, EPD International Secretariat
