Mooring chain R3-R3S, R4-R4S and R5 quality steel for offshore industry

Product information

A mooring system is made up of a mooring line, anchor and connectors, and is used for station keeping of a ship or floating platform in all water depths. Those platforms are normally used for oil and gas extraction or storage, but it is also getting higher the number of renewable energy installations offshore that requiered mooring lines. A common mooring line connects an anchor on the seafloor to the floating structure, and it can be made up of synthetic fiber rope, wire and chain or a combination of the three.

Vicinay Sestao produces the chains for the mooring lines, being conformed by links joined continuously together until length required by client is reached. Vicinay Sestao is capable to manufacture links in a range of diameter from 70 mm to 240 mm and different qualities (grades) of raw material (R3, R3S, R4, R4S, R5) based on the strength and the resistance needed by the mooring line, depending on the installation to be moored and where is located. Chain lengths need to successfully pass stric testing to ensure withstanding of working load and mechanical properties before they are certified by a Classification Society validating they are ready for delivery and use.
