A new PCR covering Rail Transports

26 aug 2009

The Swedish railway project "The Botna Line" have developed a PCR for the assessment of environmental performance of Rail Transport and Railway Infrastructure within the EPD®system framework. The PCR describe how to perform the underlying Life Cycle Assessment and other environmental assessments for the development of an EPD according to ISO 14025 and ISO 14040. The PCR is developed in cooperation with the Swedish Rail Administration and Linköping University.

The Bothnia Line is the biggest railway project of modern times in Sweden. It is a single-track railway being laid from along the coastline in Northern Sweden. The Bothnia Line will link together a highly productive region, where a series of significant industrial locations are all situated along the Swedish coastline. This new link will mean efficient transport of freight and the halving of travelling times for passengers. This new railway will be 190 km long, with 143 bridges and 25 km of tunnels.
