Carbon Footprint Measurement Toolkit

Life Cycle Engineering (LCE), in cooperation with the Swedish Environmental Management Council (MSR), was entrusted by the European Commission to perform a project on the Carbon Footprint Measurement Toolkit to be applied for the EU Eco-label, the EU Flower, for the inclusion of issues related to climate change.

Project Finalized

The project is finalized and the deliverables are available on the website of the European Comission

The main objective of the project was to develop a user-friendly calculation tool targeted to applicants for the label, Eco-labelling Boards, and the Commission - both as a general concept as well as for the selected product groups.

The project work with the measurement toolkit was based on input from Life Cycle Assessment methodologies, WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol, Environmental Product Declarations (EPD and Climate Declarations, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Emissions Trading Schemes (ETS).

During the course of the project a number of dissemination activities was carried out, such as participation at key events to present the project and preliminary results, consultations with key stakeholders to get their views and input to the project work, issuing newsletters, set-up of an ad hoc website with on-line consultation services and the arrangement of a European-wide workshop.

Consultations were held with eco-labelling organizations, retailers, suppliers and consumers. Preliminary results from the consultations was presented during the course of the project enabling possibilities for any interested party to provide further input.
